The insurance brokerage world is watching closely as INSURICA, one of the largest privately held agencies in the country, swallows up a digital-first rival that made its name simplifying workers’ comp for Main Street businesses. The acquisition of WorkCompOne, finalized September 1, signals that even established brokers see the online channel as essential for reaching the small-business market.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, UNITED STATES, October 12, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — INSURICA has acquired WorkCompOne, a direct-to-consumer digital insurance agency focused on workers’ compensation coverage for small businesses.

The deal includes WorkCompOne’s website, its existing book of business, and the tools it uses to find new customers. The transaction took effect Sept. 1.

John Hester, INSURICA’s Chief Acquisitions and Digital Strategy Officer, said the move sharpens the company’s digital edge and opens doors to fresh small-business prospects. He added that it positions the firm for continued expansion.

“From a policy issuing standpoint, a rating standpoint, WorkCompOne could benefit not just INSURICA Direct but the entire organization,” Hester said. “It’s about using technology to make the insurance professional, carrier and customer experience better.”

WorkCompOne launched in 2012 with a mission to make quoting and buying workers’ comp coverage easier for small-business owners. It became an early leader in moving the small-business insurance purchase online. Over the years, the company built a strong reputation by helping thousands of business owners get coverage and working with carrier partners to create integrated rating systems that improved classification accuracy and sped up the quoting process.

Todd Smith, WorkCompOne’s founder, acknowledged that both the technology and the market have shifted since he started the company. He said INSURICA is in a strong position to carry that work forward through its digital agency, INSURICA Direct.

“What excites me most is that this isn’t about technology replacing the insurance professional,” Smith said. “It’s about using technology to make the insurance professional, carrier and customer experience better.”

Why it matters: The purchase underscores how digital tools have become a must-have, not a nice-to-have, in commercial insurance—especially for the small-business segment that often gets overlooked by traditional brokers. By folding WorkCompOne’s online quoting and rating technology into its own operations, INSURICA is betting that speed and accuracy will win over the next generation of Main Street clients.
