Riyadh Auction Sees Falcon Sell for 1.3 Million Riyals
RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA, August 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A falcon has been purchased for 1.3 million Saudi riyals ($346,000) during the International Falcon Breeders Auction 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ranking as the costliest bird of this year’s event and the second-largest transaction ever recorded at the auction.
The bird, a juvenile three-quarter Gyr Super White, was bought on the seventh evening of the auction, which is staged by the National Center for Falcons at its headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh.
Two birds originating from a Canadian breeding farm fetched a combined 1.45 million riyals ($387,000) during the evening session. The earlier lot, a juvenile Pure Gyr, started at 40,000 riyals ($10,700) and concluded at 150,000 riyals ($40,000).
The later lot, the juvenile three-quarter Gyr, opened at 200,000 riyals ($53,000), attracted intense competition, and ultimately went for 1.3 million riyals.
At the previous year’s auction, the leading sale was a Pure Gyr Super White from a U.S. farm, which brought 1.2 million riyals ($320,000). The all-time record remains 1.75 million riyals ($467,000), set in an earlier edition for a juvenile Ultra White three-quarter Pure Gyr.
The event draws falconers, breeders, and purchasers from both Saudi Arabia and abroad, with farms from many countries taking part. Bidding occurs live and is broadcast on television as well as on the National Center for Falcons’ social media channels.
The auction continues through August 25.
