Weston Solutions names Kara Fields first female CEO as Bove retires after 44 years

Weston Solutions is writing its next chapter with a historic leadership handoff: Kara Fields will become the company’s first female CEO in January 2027, while current chief executive Lawrence J. Bove caps a 44-year run at the end of 2026. The announcement, made public October 14, locks in a deliberate succession timeline designed to keep the employee-owned environmental and infrastructure firm on an even keel for clients and staff alike.

Lawrence J. Bove to retire at end of 2026; Fields to become CEO in January 2027 as part of long-term succession plan

Bove, who has led the West Chester, Pennsylvania-based company since 2021, will remain as CEO through the entirety of 2026 and work closely with Fields to ensure a seamless transition. At the Board’s request, he will then stay on as a senior consultant through 2027, providing continuity beyond his official retirement. Fields, already named President in January 2026, will add the CEO title a year later.

Since stepping into the CEO role, my focus has been to ensure Weston is well positioned for long-term success with a clear strategy and a culture that makes Weston a great place to work.”— Lawrence J. Bove

This is not a sudden shift but the result of a Board-led process that reflects Weston’s long-standing commitment to leadership stability, according to company officials. Alan Solow, Chair of Weston’s Board of Directors, emphasized the intentional nature of the plan: “Weston has built its reputation on consistency showing up for clients, delivering on complex challenges, and doing the right thing in the communities we serve. Our succession planning is intentional and disciplined. Kara is the right leader for Weston’s next chapter, and this transition timeline reinforces stability for our clients and the marketplace.”

Bove’s tenure has been marked by measurable gains. Over the past five years, Weston sharpened its strategic focus on operational excellence, invested heavily in talent development, and completed a full corporate capital restructuring that made the firm 100% owned by its active employees. That period also produced several consecutive years of record profitability, according to the company, and re-established a pattern of sustainable long-term growth.

“Since stepping into the CEO role, my focus has been to ensure Weston is well positioned for long-term success with a clear strategy and a culture that makes Weston a great place to work,” said Bove. “Weston’s nearly 70-year history and 100% employee-owned structure are differentiators that create enduring value. I’m proud of the platform we have built and confident in Kara and the leadership team as we move forward.”

Fields is not a newcomer to the executive suite. She joined Weston in 2001 and currently serves as both President and Chief Operating Officer, having led teams across the enterprise in environmental consulting, engineering, regulatory support, and operational execution. Her deep familiarity with the company’s work is a key part of the Board’s confidence.

“Our clients choose Weston because they can rely on us, today and for the long term,” said Fields. “We have a clear direction, a strong culture, and an extensive bench of leaders. I’m honored to step into this role and to build on the momentum we’ve created as we continue executing our strategy.”

Why it matters: This transition signals a rare double milestone for a major employee-owned firm — a gender barrier broken at the top and a leadership change executed without disruption. For clients and the roughly 2,000 employee-owners, the extended timeline and Bove’s continued advisory role are designed to preserve the stability that has driven five years of record performance, ensuring the company’s strategy stays on course through 2027 and beyond.
