Wecom Fiber has announced that Kevin Stamey has been named Chief Operating Officer. In this capacity, Stamey will oversee design and engineering, construction delivery, and execution of the BEAD program as the company expands one of Arizona’s largest broadband initiatives.
Stamey brings extensive experience in building and scaling fiber networks. Most recently, as Vice President of West Coast Operations at Astound, he directed construction, engineering, and field operations during a phase of rapid growth and was instrumental in planning and securing substantial BEAD funding along with other large grant-supported projects. That background directly mirrors the challenges ahead at Wecom Fiber.
Wecom Fiber is carrying out an aggressive rollout across an eight-county region in northern and western Arizona, financed through a mix of private investment and grant programs. The company is deploying significant private capital to build fiber in competitive markets such as Flagstaff, Prescott, Prescott Valley, and Cottonwood, while its grant-funded initiative—backed by nearly $196 million in BEAD funding, the largest award of its kind in the state—delivers high-speed fiber to roughly 66,000 homes and businesses in underserved and rural areas. With construction already active in additional markets throughout its eight-county footprint, the company expects to extend fiber to more communities in the coming months. As COO, Stamey will lead the operational team responsible for translating that plan into installed fiber and connected customers.
