The funding pace showed no signs of a summer slowdown, as numerous AI-heavy startups closed substantial rounds. Leading the pack was a $1.5 billion investment in enterprise AI company Fireworks AI, alongside a Series D for meal and delivery service Wonder. The week also saw significant financings across enterprise tech, food delivery, drones, and construction automation.
1. Fireworks AI, $1.5B, enterprise AI tools: Fireworks AI, which builds tools enabling enterprises to convert “general-purpose models into specialized intelligence trained on their own data,” secured $1.505 billion in Series D funding. Atreides Management, Index Ventures and TCV led the round, which valued the San Mateo, California-based company at $17.5 billion.
2. Wonder, $650M, meals and delivery: Wonder, a company that operates kitchens and meal delivery services, closed a $650 million Series D at a $9 billion pre-money valuation. The capital will partly be used to expand operations for the New York-based firm, which currently runs 140 locations.
3. Chai Discovery, $400M, life sciences AI: AI drug discovery startup Chai Discovery raised $400 million in Series C funding at a $3.8 billion valuation. Index Ventures led the round, with participation from Sequoia Capital, Dimension, Kleiner Perkins and others.
4. Walden Robotics, $300M, robots: Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Walden Robotics, a startup developing general-purpose robots for manufacturing and logistics, exited stealth mode with $300 million in funding. Toyota and Deviation Capital led the round, which gave the company a $1.1 billion valuation.
