Nejem earned a Gold Stevie® Winner title in the Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution to Sustainability for the entry “Mustafa A. Nejem: Outstanding Individual Contribution to Maritime Sustainability and Innovation.” He additionally took home a Bronze Stevie® Award in the Thought Leader of the Year category for “Global Thought Leader in Maritime Sustainability, Innovation, and Inclusive Leadership.”
These two recognitions highlight a career that spans command experience at sea, executive roles onshore, advanced academic pursuits, and a dedication to reinforcing the human and environmental pillars of the maritime industry.

Nejem’s work integrates maritime strategy, fleet management, leadership development, sustainability, law, and human-centered innovation. He holds the Chartered Manager (CMgr) designation from the Chartered Management Institute; is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA); a Fellow of the Institute of Consulting (FIC), Chartered Management Institute; an Associate Fellow of The Nautical Institute (AFNI); and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
His academic credentials include an LL.M. in International Commercial Law from the University of Salford; a Global MBA from Abertay University; an Executive MBA in Business Analytics from UCAM, Spain; an MSc in Fleet Management; an MSc in Maritime Business; and a Master Mariner Certificate of Competency. His research has explored maritime finance, data-driven decision-making in global maritime business, sustainable shipping, and crew welfare.
As an author, Nejem turns complex maritime and leadership topics into practical resources for industry professionals and emerging leaders. His published works include The Green Wave: Embracing Renewable Energy in Maritime Shipping and The Inclusive Leader: Embracing Diversity for Organizational Excellence.
