Indra Energy hits 44,000-tree milestone in tech-verified global reforestation push

When a retail energy supplier ties daily power consumption to measurable environmental restoration, the results can be more than symbolic. Indra Energy’s year-long collaboration with veritree — a platform specializing in tech-verified reforestation — has now produced a concrete milestone: 44,000 trees planted across restoration sites in two countries, with every planting verified through ground-level data and satellite checks.

Houston-based Indra Energy announced the successful completion of its reforestation campaign with veritree, a leader in technology-backed restoration projects. The partnership’s core goal — expanding environmental impact through community involvement, customer participation, and fully transparent restoration work — was achieved over the past year, according to the company.

At the heart of the initiative was Indra Energy’s Green Tree plan, which channels everyday energy usage directly into tree-planting efforts across veritree’s global network of restoration sites. Customers supported reforestation simply by powering their homes, turning routine utility bills into a vehicle for environmental action.

Through a combination of customer enrollments and interactive community initiatives — including a tree donation game played by Pittsburgh fans — Indra Energy not only met but exceeded its target, resulting in 44,000 trees planted at critical restoration locations worldwide.

Two key regions highlight the campaign’s scope. In Florida, the partnership supported the restoration of coastal mangroves and native forests, helping protect local habitats, stabilize coastlines, and strengthen ecosystem resilience against sea-level rise. In Senegal, the initiative backed agroforestry projects aimed at restoring degraded agricultural land, improving local farming yields, and enhancing food security for nearby communities.

Central to the effort was converting environmental intent into verifiable action. veritree’s technology underpins transparency across all project sites, using ground-level data collection, satellite monitoring, and post-planting assessments to track ecosystem health and estimate carbon sequestration over time.

“Our reforestation campaign with veritree demonstrated how everyday energy choices can lead to verified, positive environmental change,” said Jeff Rodgers, Chief Marketing Officer at Indra Energy. “From engaging the community to empowering our Green Tree plan customers, reaching this milestone proves that small, collective actions lead to significant global impact.”

For consumers weighing the real-world impact of green energy plans, this milestone offers a measurable answer: routine choices, aggregated across a customer base, can translate into thousands of verified trees — and a transparent system to prove it.

*If you enroll in a 100% Renewable Energy plan with Indra Energy as a residential and/or small commercial customer, one hundred percent (100%) of your electricity usage will be paired with renewable energy certificates generated from renewable or alternative energy sources in the United States, which may include wind, solar, hydro, or any other zero-emission sources which have been qualified as such. The amount of RECs that exceed any mandatory renewable portfolio or clean standard requirements may be generated from renewable or alternative energy sources located anywhere in the United States. Indra will retire RECs in a regional generation attribute system, such as PJM Gats for customers in NJ, PA, MD, VA, IL, DC, DE territories, or via ISO – New England for customers in MA; the RECs are not generated in the State of Illinois.

If you select a natural gas product, one hundred percent (100%) of your natural gas usage will be matched with carbon offsets. Indra Energy© All Rights Reserved.

Why it matters: This milestone shows that consumer-facing energy plans can produce tangible, independently verified environmental outcomes — not just marketing claims. As more companies adopt technology-backed restoration tracking, the bar for what counts as a genuine green initiative will likely rise, giving customers clearer signals about where their money actually makes a difference.
