“Born and raised in Riverside and an environmental scientist by profession, Patricia Lock Dawson first became mayor in 2020 and was re-elected in March 2024, after having spent nine years on the Riverside Unified School District board.
Her hallmark effort is a self-created ‘Bipartisan Forum,’ a permanent gathering of seven Democrats and seven Republicans that has met since 2021 to address homelessness, mental health policy reform, and public safety without relying on party frameworks—work she points to as instrumental in advancing California’s CARE Court mental-health legislation, which links adults suffering from untreated mental illness to care and housing.
During her tenure, Riverside has obtained more than $300 million in state and federal funding to tackle infrastructure gaps, homelessness, and workforce training. In October 2025 she was chosen to lead Big City Mayors, a group representing California’s 13 largest municipalities.”
