Beginning a new academic year is exciting, but it can also present difficulties, especially for international students adapting to a different country, culture, language, and academic setting. Understanding the need to make students feel welcomed and included, Stanton University hosted an interactive trivia event aimed at fostering connections and strengthening the campus community.
Organized by Dr. Maldonado, Program Chair, the event provided students with a lively alternative to standard icebreakers. Rather than just stating their names, home countries, and hobbies, participants engaged in a spirited contest that promoted natural dialogue, collaboration, and laughter.
The atmosphere buzzed with energy as groups of three students volunteered to compete, using desk bells to signal their answers. The trivia covered Stanton University’s academic offerings, policies, student services, and general knowledge. Some questions were simple, while others required careful thought and quick responses.
Though the event featured a competitive element, its main goal was to cultivate a warm and supportive atmosphere. Students cheered each other’s correct answers, laughed at unexpected replies, and encouraged those who stepped up to play. As the game progressed, initially hesitant students grew more confident and engaged. By the end, even faculty members had joined in the competition.
After the trivia session, students and faculty gathered for pizza and drinks. This informal setting gave everyone another chance to introduce themselves, keep conversations going, and start forming friendships beyond the classroom.
